SUCCESS AND GOOD FORTUNE AS SHE REPORTS TO THE UNITED STATES | |
MILITARY ACADEMY AT WEST POINT FOR RECEPTION DAY (R-DAY) ON | |

1 | WHEREAS, Morgan Chaves is a driven young woman with a burning desire to serve |
2 | society and our nation. She has the honor and distinction of being the first Rhode Island National |
3 | Guard member to be admitted into the United States Military Academy at West Point. She was |
4 | recognized and honored for this distinguished achievement by the Rhode Island Adjutant |
5 | General, Major General Kevin R. McBride, and the Rhode Island National Guard leadership; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Morgan Chaves enlisted in the Rhode Island National Guard in October of |
7 | 2013, and has served our nation and the citizens of Rhode Island with integrity and devotion; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Ms. Chaves is an outstanding student. She is a member of the National |
9 | Honor Society and graduated from the Blackstone Academy after having attended pre-college |
10 | summer programs at Brown University focusing on epidemiology and infectious diseases. She |
11 | aspires to be a medical doctor and to have a military career; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Ms. Chaves is a hard working young person who is very active in |
13 | community and charitable affairs. She is a hospice volunteer and provides music therapy to the |
14 | patients by playing the violin. She has served the Rhode Island State Senate for three years with |
15 | distinction as a Senate Page. She also works at Lachapelle Funeral Home and was both an |
16 | accomplished Competition Cheerleader and a Tolman High School Cheerleader; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Reception Day (R-Day) is an annual event held at the United States Military |
18 | Academy to receive incoming New Cadets to West point and to initiate the beginning of Cadet |

1 | Basic Training (CBT) on the road toward becoming a member of the Corps of Cadets; now, |
2 | therefore be it |
3 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
4 | hereby recognizes and honors Morgan Chaves and wishes her continued success and good fortune |
5 | as she reports to the United States Military Academy at West Point for Reception Day (R-Day) on |
6 | July 2, 2014; and be it further |
7 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
8 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Morgan Chaves. |
