H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING AND WELCOMING DR. FÉLIX ANTONIO CRUZ JIMINIÁN ON THE

OCCASION OF HIS VISIT TO THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, Born in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic, Dr. Félix Antonio Cruz Jiminián

grew up in Cristo Rey, one of the poorest neighborhoods in the City of Santo Domingo. With

great determination, he was able to attend the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo, but had

to borrow books from his friends, which often weren't available until late in the night, in order to

study and complete his assignments; and

     WHEREAS, Through many years of personal sacrifice and perseverance, Dr. Cruz

Jiminián received his Doctorate of Medicine and opened a small clinic in the neighborhood where

he had grown up; and

     WHEREAS, The clinic was soon serving hundreds of people daily, charging only

minimal fees or often providing free services. With the immense need for proper medical care

still urgent, Dr. Cruz Jiminián built a hospital. Utilizing social assistance programs and trained

professionals, hundreds of poor and disadvantaged people have been provided with the care they

desperately need; and

     WHEREAS, Today, the hospital offers various treatments, operations, and procedures

including hydrocephalus treatment, TB treatment, and dialysis, and offers information and advice

to the community about the importance of good nutrition. Showing support for Dr. Cruz

Jiminián's efforts, the Dominican government and judicial system have assisted the hospital with

the purchase of an ambulance and hospital equipment to optimize its services; and

     WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Cruz Jiminián established a meals on wheels program to

serve the elderly and a neighborhood association to connect with residents in the city. He also

offers initiatives to promote good health practices and has a TV program to promote healthy

lifestyles; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Cruz Jiminián has and continues to shape a brighter future for the people

and children in his country. He has earned myriad awards from causes and associations around

the globe and he is eminently worthy of our recognition and praise; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby warmly welcomes Dr. Félix Antonio Cruz Jiminián to our state.

We wish him good health, and we have every confidence that his future will be filled with

achievement, success and happiness; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Dr. Félix Antonio Cruz Jiminián.
