CONGRATULATING ROBERT KENYON ON RECEIVING HIS LONG OVERDUE | |
MILITARY MEDALS EARNED WHILE SERVING OUR NATION IN WORLD WAR II | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with great pride that his House has learned that Robert Kenyon, a |
2 | Rhode Islander currently living in Port Charlotte, Florida, has finally received the medals he |
3 | earned for his heroic service to our nation in World War II; and |
4 | WHEREAS, In the Second World War, Robert Kenyon, like most men of his generation, |
5 | answered the call of duty during our nation’s greatest time of peril. He joined the United States |
6 | Naval Reserve and experienced heavy combat in the Pacific Theater. Late in the war, on August |
7 | 9, 1945, while serving below deck in the generator room aboard the destroyer USS Borie, in |
8 | Tokyo Bay, a kamikaze crashed into the ship killing 48 men and wounding 66 others. The USS |
9 | Borie was the last United States destroyer to be hit by a kamikaze in World War II and the |
10 | memories of that tragic day have stayed with Mr. Kenyon to the present; and |
11 | WHEREAS, On November 4, 2014, for his heroic service to our nation, Robert Kenyon |
12 | was presented by United States Congressman Tom Rooney, of Florida, the following six medals: |
13 | The United States Navy Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the American |
14 | Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal (with 3 Bronze Star appurtenances), the |
15 | European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon; and |
16 | WHEREAS, After the war, Robert Kenyon worked for a Providence gas company for 43 |
17 | years before retiring to Florida. He has been married for 67 years to the love of his life, Lucy |
18 | Kenyon; now, therefore be it |
19 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |

1 | Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Robert Kenyon for recently receiving his long |
2 | overdue military medals for his heroic service to our nation in World War II; and be it further |
3 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
4 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Robert Kenyon. |
