CONGRATULATING MAJOR SHARON LENETTE HARMON ON HER PROMOTION TO | |
THE RANK OF LIEUTENANT COLONEL | |

1 | WHEREAS, It fundamental that the men and women who wear the uniform of the armed |
2 | forces know that they are appreciated and that their service to our country is respected and |
3 | valued; and |
4 | WHEREAS, In July of 1985, Sharon Lenette Harmon started her military career by |
5 | completing both her basic and advanced individual training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. She |
6 | served in the Army Reserve as a Non-Commissioned Officer for nine years before joining the |
7 | Army National Guard in 1993; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Over the course of her illustrious career, Major Harmon has served as the |
9 | Equal Employment Manager with the Rhode Island National Guard, as a Labor Relations |
10 | Specialist and as the Civilian Education Specialist. She currently serves as the Joint Force |
11 | Headquarters Commander and the State Family Program Director, and has just recently returned |
12 | from a year-long deployment to Bagram, Afghanistan, where she served as Equal Opportunity |
13 | Advisor with the 43rd Military Police Brigade; and |
14 | WHEREAS, For her distinguished service in the military, Major Harmon has received a |
15 | plethora of awards and commendations including the Bronze Star Medal, the Army |
16 | Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), the Army Reserve |
17 | Components Achievement Medal (6th Award), the National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), |
18 | the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars, the Global War on Terrorism |
19 | Service Medal, the Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service |

1 | Ribbon, the Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, and the Armed Forces Reserve |
2 | Medal with an M Device; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Major Harmon was born and raised in Newberry, South Carolina. She |
4 | moved to Rhode Island in 1984, and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Rhode |
5 | Island College and her Masters' degree in Education from Touro University International. She |
6 | currently resides in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, with her two children, Marcus Allen and Valerie |
7 | Lenette, and her mother, Mary Worthy; now, therefore be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
9 | Providence Plantations hereby recognizes and congratulates Major Sharon Lenette Harmon on |
10 | her promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. We furthermore applaud her myriad |
11 | achievements, awards, and commendations, and thank her for the longevity of her service and |
12 | commitment and wish her and her entire family the very best health, happiness, and future |
13 | success; and be it further |
14 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
15 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Major Sharon Lenette Harmon. |
