CREATING A SPECIAL LEGISLATIVE COMMISSION TO STUDY AND REVIEW | |
CURRENT RULES AND REGULATIONS PERTAINING TO THE RHODE ISLAND BOARD | |
OF MEDICAL LICENSURE & DISCIPLINE | |

1 | RESOLVED, That a special legislative commission be and the same is hereby created |
2 | consisting of nine (9) members: five (5) of whom shall be members of the Rhode Island House of |
3 | Representatives, not more than four (4) from the same political party, to be appointed by the |
4 | Speaker of the House; and four (4) of whom shall be members of the general public, to be |
5 | appointed by the Speaker of the House. |
6 | In lieu of any appointment of a member of the legislature to a permanent advisory |
7 | commission, a legislative study commission, or any commission created by a General Assembly |
8 | resolution, the appointing authority may appoint a member of the general public to serve in lieu |
9 | of a legislator, provided that the Majority Leader or the Minority Leader of the political party |
10 | which is entitled to the appointment, consents to the member of the general public. |
11 | The purpose of said commission shall be to make a comprehensive study and analysis of |
12 | the rules and regulations pertaining to the Rhode Island Board of Medical Licensure & Discipline |
13 | and to assess the fairness of the application of the rules and regulations regarding the discipline of |
14 | any medical professional in the practice of medicine, surgery, dentistry, psychiatric medicine and |
15 | counseling and all other professionals who are under the purview of the Board. |
16 | Forthwith upon passage of this resolution, the members of the commission shall meet at |
17 | the call of the Speaker of the House and organize and shall select a chairperson. |
18 | Vacancies in said commission shall be filled in like manner as the original appointment. |
19 | The membership of said commission shall receive no compensation for their services. |

1 | All departments and agencies of the state shall furnish such advice and information, |
2 | documentary and otherwise, to said commission and its agents as is deemed necessary or |
3 | desirable by the commission to facilitate the purposes of this resolution. |
4 | The Speaker of the House is hereby authorized and directed to provide suitable quarters |
5 | for said commission; and be it further |
6 | RESOLVED, That the commission shall report its findings and recommendations to the |
7 | House of Representatives no later than April 2, 2016, and said commission shall expire on June 2, |
8 | 2016. |
