RELATING TO STATE AFFAIRS AND GOVERNMENT - RHODE ISLAND ECONOMIC

REPRESENTATIVE TO THE EUROPEAN UNION

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Title 42 of the General Laws entitled "STATE AFFAIRS AND

GOVERNMENT" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following chapter:

CHAPTER 100.2

RHODE ISLAND ECONOMIC REPRESENTATIVE TO THE EUROPEAN UNION

     42-100.2-1. Economic representative to the European Union. -- There is hereby

created the post of Rhode Island economic representative to the European Union.

     42-100.2-2. Appointment. -- The governor shall appoint one person to serve as Rhode

Island economic representative to the European Union. This person shall serve at the pleasure of

the governor with the appointment to be for a term of not more than five (5) years.

     42-100.2-3. Qualifications. -- The Rhode Island economic representative to the

European Union must have earned recognition and distinction as a business leader in the state of

Rhode Island.

     42-100.2-4. Duties. -- The duties of the Rhode Island economic representative to the

European Union shall include promoting business activities and economic investments in Rhode

Island by different business entities throughout the European Union.

     42-100.2-5. Certification. -- The secretary of state shall issue to the appointee a

certificate bearing the seal of the state upon which is designated the name of the appointee, the

words "Rhode Island economic representative to the European Union," and the term of office set

forth from beginning to ending month and year of service.

     42-100.2-6. Position of honor. -- The position of Rhode Island economic representative

to the European Union shall be honorific only, and shall not confer official status; nor shall the

statements or views of the Rhode Island economic representative to the European Union be

regarded as the official position of the state in any court of law, nor the position of any of the

state officers.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

     This act would establish the position of Rhode Island economic representative to the

European Union.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
