RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING THE RHODE ISLAND CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION | |
TO PETITION THE ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS TO STUDY THE POSSIBILITY OF | |
CONSTRUCTING A JETTY AT THE MOUTH OF THE NARROW RIVER | |

1 | WHEREAS, Recent reports, issued by the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management |
2 | Council, state that approximately seven percent of Rhode Island’s shoreline is critically eroding, |
3 | including the Narragansett Town Beach and the beach at the Dunes Club; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Rhode Island’s beautiful coastline and world renowned beaches, especially |
5 | in the Town of Narragansett, are critical assets and key components to the economic vitality of |
6 | our state. Beach erosion diminishes property values and tourism, and has a negative impact on the |
7 | quality of life and the economy in Rhode Island; now, therefore be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
9 | Providence Plantations respectfully requests the Rhode Island Congressional delegation to |
10 | petition the Army Corps of Engineers to study the possibility of constructing a jetty at the mouth |
11 | of the Narrow River to stop the erosion of the Narragansett Town Beach and the beach at the |
12 | Dunes Club, and to dredge the Narrow River to improve flow and water quality; and be it further |
13 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
14 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the members of the Rhode Island Congressional |
15 | delegation. |
