CONGRATULATING EDITH C. DAVIS ON THE JOYOUS CELEBRATION OF HER 100TH

BIRTHDAY

     WHEREAS, Edith C. Davis, a longtime resident of Narragansett, Rhode Island, will be

joyously celebrating her 100th Birthday on April 6, 2015; and

     WHEREAS, Edith's year of birth, 1915, was a much simpler time for our nation. The

median household income was $687, with a loaf of bread costing seven cents, a dozen eggs was

only thirty-four cents, a quart of milk was nine cents and a pound of steak was twenty-six cents.

A new home in 1915 cost the average family forty-eight hundred dollars, a new car cost five

hundred dollars, and a gallon of gasoline cost about fifteen cents; and

     WHEREAS, Edith has devoted most of her life to the loving, caring and nourishing of

her loved ones. She was the wife of Commander Roger L. Davis for sixty-three years, until his

passing. Together, they raised five children, Constance, Frances, Roger, Albert and George, and

she took care of her family wherever her husband's Navy career took them; and

     WHEREAS, Edith delights in receiving visits from her family and is beloved and

cherished by her entire family and all of her friends; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Edith C. Davis on the joyous occasion of her 100th

birthday; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Edith C. Davis.
