A N   A C T

RELATING TO ELECTIONS -- CAMPAIGN FINANCE

     Introduced By: Representatives Marcello, Hearn, Ajello, Nunes, and Jacquard

     Date Introduced: March 12, 2015

     Referred To: House Judiciary

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 17-25 of the General Laws entitled "Rhode Island Campaign

Contributions and Expenditures Reporting" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following

section:

     17-25-7.7. Campaign financial accounts. – Every candidate for public office, who

receives more than one thousand dollars ($1,000) in contributions or expends more than one

thousand dollars ($1,000) in any one election cycle, shall maintain a campaign financial checking

account in a state or federally-regulated institution. Only campaign funds may be deposited in the

campaign checking account and these campaign funds cannot be comingled with any other non-

campaign funds from any source.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

     This act would require all candidates for public office who receive or expend more than

one thousand dollars ($1,000) in any one election cycle, to maintain a separate campaign

checking account which shall solely contain campaign contributions.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
