1 | WHEREAS, Annually in April, as the beatific cherry trees bloom, accomplished young |
2 | women from across the country travel to Washington, D.C., to attend a weeklong series of |
3 | educational and enriching activities and receptions, culminating in the National Cherry Blossom |
4 | Festival Parade. One of these state delegates is then chosen to represent the United States in Japan |
5 | as the United States Cherry Blossom Queen; and |
6 | WHEREAS, The Ocean State's own homegrown beauty, Miss Alexandra Curtis, was |
7 | selected as the 2015 Rhode Island Cherry Blossom Princess. A recent graduate of Syracuse |
8 | University, who grew up in the Town of East Greenwich, Alexandra is eminently well prepared |
9 | to "showcase the brilliance and talent that exist in Rhode Island"; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Demonstrating amazing leadership skills, Alexandra was a member of the |
11 | Renee Crown University Honors Program while attending Syracuse University. In addition, she |
12 | served as the Student Association President in 2013, was the student representative to the Board |
13 | of Trustees, and founded the first women’s leadership week on campus; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Alexandra has also successfully competed in a number of pageants. She |
15 | competed in the Miss Rhode Island 2014 pageant and was named first runner up, and was |
16 | selected as Miss East Greenwich in 2014, and was recently named Miss West Warwick 2015; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Upon graduation, Alexandra completed a fellowship through Running Start, |
18 | and interned for United States Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. In addition, through her |
19 | pageant associations, she raised funds for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, and traveled |

1 | throughout the Northeast promoting her platform "Leading Ladies: Equipping Young Women |
2 | With the Skills to Lead"; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Alexandra Curtis is an outstanding young lady, who has already |
4 | accumulated a plethora of awards and honors in her short lifetime and it is fitting that we |
5 | encourage, recognize, and applaud her accomplishments; now, therefore be it |
6 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
7 | Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Alexandra Curtis on being selected as a 2015 Cherry |
8 | Blossom Princess and we wish her happiness, good health, and continued success in all her future |
9 | endeavors; and be it further |
10 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
11 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Miss Alexandra Curtis. |
