CONGRATULATING JUDITH A. LUNDSTEN, CRANSTON SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT, | |
ON HER RETIREMENT AFTER THIRTY-THREE YEARS OF DEVOTED AND | |
EXEMPLARY SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF CRANSTON | |

1 | WHEREAS, Judith A. Lundsten is retiring as the Cranston School Superintendent after |
2 | thirty-three years of dedicated service to the citizens and students of the City of Cranston. She |
3 | served twenty-five of those years as an educator, teaching the visually impaired, and later served |
4 | as a Teacher Leader, Principal, Executive Director of Educational Programs & Services, Assistant |
5 | Superintendent, and finally, as Superintendent; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Ms. Lundsten attained a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from |
7 | the State University College at Oneonta, New York, a Master's degree in Special Education from |
8 | Vanderbilt University, and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Johnson & Wales University; |
9 | and |
10 | WHEREAS, Ms. Lundsten was chosen to be the Superintendent of the Cranston Public |
11 | Schools in 2012. She inherited this position during a tumultuous time with the district facing |
12 | budget shortages and future debt repayment obligations. Confronting this difficult task, she was |
13 | able to find consensus-building solutions and her compassionate and soft-spoken leadership style |
14 | was widely admired by the constituency she served. Ms. Lundsten will leave big shoes to fill and |
15 | her grace and extraordinary leadership skills will be sorely missed by the entire Cranston |
16 | community; now, therefore be it |
17 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
18 | Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Judith A. Lundsten on her retirement as the Cranston |
19 | School Superintendent after thirty-three years of devoted and exemplary service to the citizens of |

2 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
3 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Ms. Judith A. Lundsten. |
