EXTENDING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF FORMER RHODE ISLAND STATE | |
SENATOR, THE HONORABLE EDWARD F. HOLLAND, SR. | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with sadness and regret that this House has learned of the passing of the |
2 | Honorable Edward F. Holland, Sr., a resident of the City of Cranston and formerly from the |
3 | Village of Matunuck, and a respected former member of the Rhode Island Senate; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Born in Providence, Edward Holland was a son of the late Edward and |
5 | Wilhelmina Holland and the brother of Patricia North, Mary Jane Lovett, Brian Holland and |
6 | Kathy Roberts of Chepachet; and |
7 | WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Mr. Holland was the beloved husband of Eleanor Q. |
8 | Holland, the loving father of Cynthia Holland Matarese, Edward F. Holland, Jr., Stephen P. |
9 | Holland, and step-father of Raymond Quirk, James Quirk, and Caroline Gorham. He was also the |
10 | proud grandfather of eleven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; and |
11 | WHEREAS, A conscientious and hard-working man, Edward Holland had been |
12 | employed as a cartographer for Defensive Mapping Agency for thirty-seven years before his |
13 | retirement; and |
14 | WHEREAS, A valued member of the Rhode Island Senate, the Honorable Edward |
15 | Holland was elected in November of 1994, as a Rhode Island State Senator for District 6, which |
16 | encompassed neighborhoods in South Kingstown and Block Island. He served his constituency |
17 | from January of 1995 through 1996; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Our thoughts and hearts hold great empathy and sorrow for Edward |
19 | Holland's family. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a distinguished former public |

1 | servant and he will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it |
2 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
3 | Providence Plantations hereby offers its sincere condolences on the passing of the Honorable |
4 | Edward F. Holland, Sr.; and be it further |
5 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
6 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Eleanor Q. Holland and Family. |
