EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES TO THE DUFFY FAMILY ON THE PASSING OF GEORGE | |

1 | WHEREAS, George Patrick Duffy of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, passed away at the age of |
2 | 94 on Saturday, May 23, 2015. He was the loving husband of Helen F. Duffy for 71 years; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Mr. Duffy was the son of the late Frederick and Emma Duffy. He served our |
4 | nation with honor, courage, and valor during World War II, as a member of the United States |
5 | Coast Guard. He was one of the survivors when the ship he was serving aboard was torpedoed by |
6 | a German U-Boat in the Mediterranean Sea; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Mr. Duffy had a long, varied and very successful career within the |
8 | Pawtucket and State of Rhode Island sports' communities. He was the beloved voice of the Rhode |
9 | Island Reds Hockey team, where he served as publicist and broadcaster. He also served as a youth |
10 | baseball coach for many years. He led the Pawtucket Little League All-Stars to the 1980 Little |
11 | League World Series, and was a coach and life-long mentor to Chris Iannetta, starting catcher for |
12 | the Los Angeles Angels. Mr. Duffy was also the Commissioner of the Pawtucket Boys and Girls |
13 | Club's baseball program and also volunteered in numerous capacities for many years. He was |
14 | inducted as a member of the Boys and Girls Club of Pawtucket's Hall of Fame, and the City of |
15 | Pawtucket’s Hall of Fame; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Besides his wife Helen, he is survived by his children, Maureen Delmonico |
17 | and her husband, Henry, Kathleen P. Sheldon and her husband, Ralph, Sheila Duffy Lapati and |
18 | her husband, Edmund, and George Patrick Duffy, Jr., and his wife, Maryann. He also leaves |
19 | behind 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; now, therefore be it |

1 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2 | Providence Plantations hereby expresses its condolences to the Duffy Family on the passing of |
3 | George Patrick Duffy; and be it further |
4 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
5 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Helen F. Duffy and Family. |
