A N   A C T

RELATING TO STATE AFFAIRS AND GOVERNMENT

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 42-64 of the General Laws entitled "Rhode Island Commerce

Corporation" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     42-64-42. Pawtucket train station. -- (a) It is declared that there exists within the city of

Pawtucket, railroad properties and adjacent lands that represent economic importance, and are an

important public asset.

     (b) It is further declared that there is a need for development of these areas for the

purpose of:

     (1) Establishing a commuter train station facility for the promotion of commercial and

economic development in the cities of Pawtucket and Central Falls and the remainder of the

Blackstone Valley region;

     (2) The attraction of appropriate businesses, resources, and investment;

     (3) Taking advantage of the region's close proximity to Boston; and

     (4) The development of an attractive urban environment that fosters the social welfare of

the public.

     (c) Subject to the certification by the board of canvassers of the city of Pawtucket that the

qualified electors of the city of Pawtucket have approved the establishment of such commuter

train station facility in said city, the general assembly shall appropriate, in fiscal year 2016, the

sum of twenty million dollars ($20,000,000), or authorize the commerce corporation and/or the

department of transportation to issue bonds and/or notes in said sum, to be applied towards the

establishment of such commuter train station facility.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

RELATING TO STATE AFFAIRS AND GOVERNMENT

     This act would authorize the general assembly to appropriate the sum of twenty million

dollars ($20,000,000) for the establishment of a commuter train station in the city of Pawtucket,

provided that the electors of the city of Pawtucket approve the establishment of such commuter

train station in the city.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
