2015 "RHODE ISLAND HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR" | |

1 | WHEREAS, Annually, the Rhode Island Association of School Principals (RIASP) |
2 | selects an individual whose leadership, efforts, and dedication has provided successful and quality |
3 | learning opportunities for students. The 2015 recipient of the Rhode Island High School |
4 | Principal of the Year recognition is Alan Tenreiro, Principal of Cumberland High School; and |
5 | WHEREAS, An enthusiastic educator, Principal Tenreiro has distinguished himself as a |
6 | consummate administrator throughout his career in education. His leadership as Principal of |
7 | Cumberland High School has clearly been exemplary, and he has not only earned the admiration |
8 | of his colleagues, but also the gratitude and respect of all of the young people he has guided |
9 | during his tenure in education; and |
10 | WHEREAS, A graduate of Rhode Island College, where he earned his Bachelor's degree |
11 | in social studies education and his Master's degree in school administration, Mr. Tenreiro began |
12 | his teaching career at Mount St. Charles Academy as a social studies teacher in 1999. Prior to |
13 | becoming Principal at Cumberland High School in 2012, he had been the assistant principal of |
14 | Smithfield High School; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Principal Tenreiro is a creative and innovative school leader. He is credited |
16 | with initiating a focus on writing that resulted in a significant increase in the school's NECAP |
17 | writing scores. In addition, during his tenure, the school's graduation rate has risen significantly, |
18 | from 80 percent in 2012, to 87.5 percent in 2014; and |
19 | WHEREAS, "The future," in the wise words of Eleanor Roosevelt, "belongs to those who |

1 | believe in the beauty of their dreams." Since taking the helm of Cumberland High School in |
2 | 2012, Principal Tenreiro has inspired his staff and the school’s students to envision their |
3 | possibilities and to believe that they can build a future full of promise, and he is eminently worthy |
4 | of our recognition and gratitude; now, therefore be it |
5 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
6 | Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Alan Tenreiro on the prestigious honor of being |
7 | named the "Rhode Island High School Principal of the Year" for 2015. We wish him the very best |
8 | of health, happiness, and success in all his future endeavors; and be it further |
9 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
10 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Alan Tenreiro. |
