H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING JOSEPH JOLY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS 100TH BIRTHDAY

     WHEREAS, One century ago, on June 2nd of 1915, Joseph Joly was born and since that

auspicious day, he has been living his life to the fullest and gathering friends by the tenfold; and

     WHEREAS, In 1915, our country was a far different place than the world we now know.

Europe was embroiled in the First World War and Woodrow Wilson was serving as the 28th

President of the United States. Baseball player Babe Ruth hit his first career home run and

women had not yet been granted the right to vote; and

     WHEREAS, Joe Joly currently resides in Cranston, where he has made his home for the

past eighty years, and daily takes the bus to Saint Elizabeth Home, where he has been a volunteer

for the past six years, serving meals to the residents, pushing wheelchairs, setting tables, reading

stories, and generally brightening the day of everyone he encounters; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Joly was recently joined by a hundred or so of his friends and family for

a special celebration of his 100th Birthday at the Saint Elizabeth Home where he received

numerous gifts, a city citation, and myriad accolades; and

     WHEREAS, Attributing his long and happy life to the simple combination of "good

women, good booze, good food and good family," Joseph Joly is certainly an inspiration and a

hero to us all; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby joins the family and many, many friends of Joseph Joly in

honoring him on this very special occasion of his 100th Birthday. We moreover wish him the very

best health and happiness for many years to come; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Joseph Joly.
