1 | WHEREAS, The Smithfield High School Girls' Outdoor Track & Field Team entered the |
2 | State Tournament as one of the favorites after compiling an outstanding regular season that |
3 | included winning the North Division, with a perfect 10-0 record, and outscoring their opposition |
4 | by the incredible score of 1,418 points to 249 points; and |
5 | WHEREAS, At the Rhode Island Outdoor Track & Field Tournament, held at Brown |
6 | Stadium, the Smithfield girls squad won its first team championship since 1972, when they |
7 | outpaced rivals LaSalle Academy and Classical High School. Smithfield emerged victorious |
8 | thanks to their strength and depth in the field events, as they were led by victories by Stephanie |
9 | Mattson in the Long Jump by Stephanie Mattson, Meagan Malloy in the Hammer Throw, and |
10 | Alyssa Colbert in the Javelin Throw; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Winning a championship in any sport requires that every member of the |
12 | team give their all and place team needs and goals ahead of individual desires. The Smithfield |
13 | Girls' 2014-2015 Outdoor Track & Field Team had these attributes in abundance as they were |
14 | aided all season by the contributions provided by Gabriella M. Baffoni, Sydney Bagus, Julia |

10 | Championship; and be it further |
11 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
12 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. John Marchand, Head Coach, Smithfield |
