H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING THE SMITHFIELD GIRLS' OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD TEAM ON

WINNING THE RHODE ISLAND 2014-2015 GIRLS' OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD STATE

CHAMPIONSHIP

     WHEREAS, The Smithfield High School Girls' Outdoor Track & Field Team entered the

State Tournament as one of the favorites after compiling an outstanding regular season that

included winning the North Division, with a perfect 10-0 record, and outscoring their opposition

by the incredible score of 1,418 points to 249 points; and

     WHEREAS, At the Rhode Island Outdoor Track & Field Tournament, held at Brown

Stadium, the Smithfield girls squad won its first team championship since 1972, when they

outpaced rivals LaSalle Academy and Classical High School. Smithfield emerged victorious

thanks to their strength and depth in the field events, as they were led by victories by Stephanie

Mattson in the Long Jump by Stephanie Mattson, Meagan Malloy in the Hammer Throw, and

Alyssa Colbert in the Javelin Throw; and

     WHEREAS, Winning a championship in any sport requires that every member of the

team give their all and place team needs and goals ahead of individual desires. The Smithfield

Girls' 2014-2015 Outdoor Track & Field Team had these attributes in abundance as they were

aided all season by the contributions provided by Gabriella M. Baffoni, Sydney Bagus, Julia

Battista, Jillian L. Beaudry, Cassidy G. Bissitt, Lily Caswell, Saramarie Cerullo, Samantha M.

Chelo, Gabriella Chiodo, Alyssa Colbert, Isabella R. Cournoyer, Genesee Daley, Theresa Di

Nobile, Analise M. England, Kayla N. Ezeama, Nicole Gazaryan, Alexandra Guertin, Lauren E.

Hindley, Chloe M. Holowachuk, Olivia J. Holowachuk, Alison M. Izzi, Rohey Jobe, Ireland

Judge, Fatoumatta Kebbeh, Gabriella M. Laurenzo, Katherine M. LaValle, Meagan Malloy,

Gianna Marchetti, Stephanie E. Mattson, Morgan McDonald, Mycala J. McKay, Rebecca L.

Meinertz, Molly Millea, Ashley Nicholson, Emily Orticerio, Caitlin M. Paredes, Audra

Ravenelle, Madison Saliba, Zoe Schwartz, Megan Stoltz, Alexandria N. Swope, Taylor K.

Tibbetts, and Una Treanor. The Smithfield Team also benefitted all season by the superb

coaching provided by Head Coach John Marchand, and Assistant Coaches Joseph Bennett, Gerry

Espinoza, and John Sliney; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates the Smithfield High School Girls' Outdoor Track &

Field Team on winning the Rhode Island 2014-2015 Girls' Outdoor Track & Field State

Championship; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. John Marchand, Head Coach, Smithfield

High School Girls' Outdoor Track & Field Team.
