CONGRATULATING THE COVENTRY GIRLS' FAST PITCH SOFTBALL TEAM ON | |
WINNING THE 2015 RHODE ISLAND FAST PITCH SOFTBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP | |

1 | WHEREAS, The Coventry Girls' Fast Pitch Softball Team persevered all season, never |
2 | allowing a loss or set-back to hold them back or harm their spirits, and as a result, they scraped |
3 | and clawed their way to a thrilling and gutsy victory in the Rhode Island Fast Pitch Softball State |
4 | Championship; and |
5 | WHEREAS, In a state tournament filled with close games and lots of excitement, the |
6 | Coventry Squad climbed out of the losers' bracket and incredibly won seven games, including |
7 | five straight elimination games, to claim the state title. In the title round against defending |
8 | champion North Kingstown, Coventry had to win two games to emerge victorious while North |
9 | Kingstown only needed to win one game. In the first game, Coventry won a slug-fest 7 to 5 to |
10 | force a deciding game for the Championship. In the deciding game, Coventry won a nail-biter 3 |
11 | to 2, as they were led by the superb pitching provided by pitcher Sophia Gervasio, and a clutch |
12 | home-run hit by Kaitlin Mattera; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Winning a state championship requires that every member of the team give |
14 | their all and put personal desires behind team needs and aspirations. Coventry was led all season |
15 | by the exemplary leadership provided by team Captains Sophia O. Gervasio, Alyssa Derrick and |
16 | Amanda N. Ritarossi, along with the contributions provided by Marisa N. Fascio, Jess Dabreo, |
17 | Alexis Poole, Alexis Schopac, Lauren Giampietro, Leah Giampietro, Brooke Keresztessy, Carly |
18 | Furtado, Melanie Howard, Brianna Marino, Kaitlin Mattera, Tarah Dawley, Mackenzie Ricci, |
19 | Nicole Breindel, Lindsey Rugg, Alyssa Sabatino, and Maxine Colvin. The softball squad was also |

1 | aided all season by the outstanding coaching provided by Head Coach Chris Daigneault, and |
2 | Assistance Coach Deborah Konuch; now, therefore be it |
3 | RESOLVED, That This House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
4 | Providence Plantations hereby congratulates the Coventry Girls' Fast Pitch Softball Team on |
5 | winning the 2015 Rhode Island Fast Pitch Softball State Championship; and be it further |
6 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
7 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Chris Daigneault, Head Coach, Coventry |
8 | Girls' Fast Pitch Softball Team. |
