H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING THE HENDRICKEN HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL TEAM ON

WINNING THE 2015 RHODE ISLAND DIVISION I BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

     WHEREAS, The Hendricken High School Baseball Team had an outstanding regular

season, compiling a perfect record and winning the Division I-A Title; and

     WHEREAS, In the state finals, Hendricken faced a strong Cumberland team for the

championship in a best of three series. After dropping the first game by the score of 3 to 1,

Hendricken struck back in game 2, winning easily 9 to 0, to force a decisive third game; and

     WHEREAS, In one of the greatest games in Rhode Island High School Baseball history,

Hendricken prevailed in a come from behind victory that will be remembered by Rhode Island

sports fans for decades. Trailing 1-0 entering the ninth inning, Hendricken stayed alive by

manufacturing a run to force extra innings. In the 10th inning, Cumberland had bases loaded with

no outs but Hendricken incredibly escaped unscathed thanks to the clutch relief pitching provided

by Mike Webb. In the bottom of the 10th, Hendricken won the game, and the state title, thanks to

Gian Martellini's double that drove in John Willette from second base; and

     WHEREAS, Winning a championship in any sport requires that every member of the

team give all they have and place individual wants secondary to team needs and goals. The

Hendricken Baseball Team had these qualities in abundance as they were led all season by the

outstanding play provided by Captain John Toppa and his teammates Christian R. Aybar, John E.

Willette, Michael P. Webb, Jason M. Comeau, Mike McCaffrey, Joseph L. Maynard, Kevin M.

Sutyla, Brendan P. Conley, Matthew D. Kennedy, Kyle S. Barbato, Gian Martellini, Anthony M.

Cofone, Dante Baldelli, Jordan D. Carvalho, Billy Keegan, Nick A. Feola, Andrew C. Flint,

Caleb Wurster, Elijah J. Brown, Andrew J. Ciacciarelli, Colin J. McBride, and Marc D. Andrews.

The Hendricken Baseball Team also benefitted all season from the superb coaching provided by

Head Coach Ed Holloway, and Assistant Coaches Bill Campbell, Bryan Leahey, Chris Sheehan,

and Ian Smith; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates the Hendricken Baseball Team on winning the 2015

Rhode Island Division I Baseball Championship; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Ed Holloway, Head Coach, Hendricken

Baseball.
