RELATING TO TOWNS AND CITIES -- BUDGET COMMISSIONS | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 45-9 of the General Laws entitled "Budget Commissions" is hereby |
2 | amended by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 45-9-5.1. Reappointment of budget commission -- General assembly approval. – (a) |
4 | A budget commission created pursuant to this chapter, whether now existing or hereafter |
5 | established, shall be appointed for a period of no longer than twenty-four (24) months, except as |
6 | provided for in subsections (b) and (c) of this section. |
7 | (b) Within six (6) months of the expiration date of a budget commission, the director of |
8 | revenue, if deemed necessary, shall seek reappointment and reauthorization for the budget |
9 | commission from the general assembly, for an additional period of twenty-four (24) months, |
10 | without limitation, if deemed necessary, for further reappointment and reauthorization. |
11 | (c) The director of revenue shall seek, within six (6) months of the effective date of this |
12 | section, reappointment and reauthorization from the general assembly for any budget commission |
13 | in existence for more than twenty-four (24) months as of the effective date of this section. |
14 | (d) Upon the failure of the director of revenue to meet the requirements of this section, a |
15 | budget commission shall immediately expire and have no further powers or duties under this |
16 | chapter. |
