It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 28-40 of the General Laws entitled "Temporary Disability |
2 | Insurance - Contributions" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 28-40-2.3. Exemption of employees covered by disability insurance programs. – |
4 | Employees who are covered by employer-sponsored disability insurance programs may elect to |
5 | be exempt from the provisions of chapters 39 through 41 of this title, provided the employer has |
6 | submitted documentation to the director confirming such coverage. |
7 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect on January 1, 2016. |

1 | This act would permit employees who are covered by employer-sponsored disability |
2 | insurance programs to elect to be exempt from the state temporary disability insurance program, |
3 | provided the employer has submitted documentation to the director confirming such coverage. |
4 | This act would offer these employees the option of not paying for potentially redundant insurance |
5 | coverage. |
6 | This act would take effect on January 1, 2016. |
