	RELATING TO MOTOR AND OTHER VEHICLES -- VETERAN DESIGNATION ON
	OPERATOR LICENSE

	It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
1	SECTION 1. Section 31-10-48 of the General Laws in Chapter 31-10 entitled "Operators'
2	and Chauffeurs' Licenses" is hereby amended to read as follows:
3	31-10-48. Veteran designation on operator license. -- (a) The administrator of the
4	division of motor vehicles shall, upon presentation of a United States Department of Defense
5	(DD) FORM 214 or other acceptable documentation of military service and verification of an
6	honorable discharge, issue a motor vehicle operator's license or commercial driver's license to the
7	presenter which is clearly marked "veteran".
8	(b) The presentment of an operator's license marked "veteran" shall have the same
9	validity in retail establishments as the presentment of a certified copy of the DOD form DD 214
10	as eligibility for preferential treatment.
11	SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

1	This act would require retail establishments within the state offering a veteran's
2	preference or discount to honor the Rhode Island operator's license designation as proof of
3	military service.
4	This act would take effect upon passage.
