EXPRESSING PROFOUND SYMPATHY ON THE PASSING OF DR. STANLEY M.

ARONSON

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Dr.

2

Stanley M. Aronson, an enormously respected neuropathologist and distinguished leader in global

3

public health, the founding dean of Brown University School of Medicine, a weekly columnist for

4

the Providence Journal, and a co-founder of Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island; and

5

     WHEREAS, Born in New York, Stanley Aronson was the son of the late Elihu and Lena

6

Aronson. He was the beloved husband of Gale Aronson, father of Dr. Sarah Aronson, Susan

7

Symons, and the late Lisa Aronson, and the grandfather of five grandchildren and six great-

8

grandchildren; and

9

     WHEREAS, Dr. Aronson was a graduate of City College of New York, and New York

10

University's Medical School. In 1969, he moved to Rhode Island and helped launch Brown's

11

medical school in 1972, serving as the school's dean from 1973 to 1981. He also co-founded

12

Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island; and

13

     WHEREAS, A prolific writer and an intellectually gifted man, Dr. Aronson was a

14

researcher, scholar, and author of more than a dozen books and 400 articles for medical journals.

15

In addition, he wrote a weekly column for the Providence Journal on a panoply of medical and

16

scientific topics; and

17

     WHEREAS, There is no doubt that Dr. Aronson, a brilliant yet humble man, an artist and

18

a writer, and a caring humanitarian and educator, left the medical and literary communities and

19

our state more informed and enlightened by his life’s endeavors. He enriched the lives of all who

knew him and he will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it

2

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

3

hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of Dr. Stanley M. Aronson; and be it

4

further

5

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

6

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Gale Aronson and Family.
