RELATING TO LABOR AND LABOR RELATIONS - INTEREST ARBITRATION POLICE

AND FIRE

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Section 28-9.1-17 of the General Laws in Chapter 28-9.1 entitled

"Firefighters' Arbitration" is hereby amended to read as follows:

     28-9.1-17. Continuance of contractual provisions. -- All contractual provisions

4

contained in a collective bargaining agreement entered into pursuant to the provisions of this

5

chapter shall continue in the following collective bargaining agreement unless either the

6

bargaining agent or the corporate authority shall, in writing, within the thirty (30) day period

7

referred to in § 28-9.1-7, propose a change in any contractual provision until such time as a

8

successor agreement has been reached between the parties or an interest arbitration award has

9

been rendered.

     SECTION 2. Section 28-9.2-17 of the General Laws in Chapter 28-9.2 entitled

11

"Municipal Police Arbitration" is hereby amended to read as follows:

     28-9.2-17. Continuance of contractual provisions. -- All contractual provisions

13

contained in a collective bargaining agreement entered into pursuant to the provisions of this

14

chapter shall continue in the following collective bargaining agreement unless either the

15

bargaining agent or the corporate authority shall, in writing, within the thirty (30) day period

16

referred to in § 28-9.2-7, propose a change in any contractual provisions until such time as a

17

successor agreement has been reached between the parties or an interest arbitration award has

18

been rendered.

     SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

OF

RELATING TO LABOR AND LABOR RELATIONS - INTEREST ARBITRATION POLICE

AND FIRE

     This act would extend any existing collective bargaining agreements for firefighters and

2

municipal police until a successor agreement has been reached or an interest arbitration award has

3

been rendered.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
