EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF ROBERT A. CROWLEY | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Robert |
2 | A. Crowley, the loving husband of fifty-two years to his wife, Sheryl, and the devoted father of |
3 | Merritt Crowley. He is also survived by his beloved grandson, Zachary Robert Crowley-Barros, |
4 | and Zachary's dad, our friend and colleague, Representative Jean Philippe Barros, and his |
5 | brother-in-law, Kevin Exley and his wife, Carol; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Born in Providence, Robert Crowley was the son of the late Clarence and |
7 | Edith Crowley, and the brother of Marjorie Schlak. He was a lifelong resident of Scituate and a |
8 | graduate of Scituate High School. He had attended the University of Rhode Island and continued |
9 | his education, graduating from the National Mortgage School at Ohio State University; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Well respected in the industry, Mr. Crowley had worked in banking for |
11 | forty-four years, earning the title of Executive Vice President of Commercial Lending at Citizens |
12 | Bank before retiring in 2004; and |
13 | WHEREAS, In addition to an abundance of business acumen, Mr. Crowley also |
14 | possessed an equal measure of compassion. He regularly volunteered at the Boston soup kitchen |
15 | and was an active and long-time member of the Boards of The Key Program and its affiliated |
16 | foundation, Alternatives for Youth; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Always an active and contributing member of the community, Mr. Crowley |
18 | served on the Scituate Town Council for ten years, four of which he was elected as President, and |
19 | was a member of the original RI Convention Center Authority, the Quonset Development |
20 | Corporation, the Roger Williams Family Association, and the North Scituate Baptist Church; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Upon his retirement, one of Bob Crowley's greatest joys was spending time |
2 | with his grandson, Zach. He became active with the Boy Scouts again in order to spend time with |
3 | Zach, and took particular pleasure in his annual family trip to Bermuda with Sheryl, Merritt and |
4 | Zach, and two special trips with Sheryl and Zach, to Alaska, and later to Normandy, London, and |
5 | Paris. He was also an avid sports fan who followed the Red Sox, New England Patriots and URI |
6 | Rams basketball; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Robert Crowley was a man of integrity and humor, who was blessed with |
8 | the love of his family and the trust and respect of his friends. He enriched the lives of all who |
9 | knew him and he will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it |
10 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
11 | hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of Robert A. Crowley; and be it further |
12 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
13 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Sheryl Crowley and Family. |
