S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING SANDRA PHAIR MUNDY ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT

     WHEREAS, While working towards her Master of Library Science degree, Sandra

Mundy joined the staff as a librarian at the Jesse Smith Library on October 14th of 1970. She

completed her Master's degree in 1971, and almost forty-five years later, she is now completing

her time with the library; and

     WHEREAS, During her tenure with the Jesse M. Smith Library, Ms. Mundy has

shouldered a myriad of responsibilities including, but certainly not limited to, handling all

operations from cataloging to circulation to children's storytimes; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Mundy has overseen the library morph from a small 2,500 square foot

space consisting of a 7,200 collection of volumes and a staff of only two persons, to a 24,900

square foot space, with 76,663 volumes and a staff of nineteen; and

     WHEREAS, Sandra Mundy's dedication to the betterment of the library and the residents

of Burrillville is renowned, and her exquisite displays are legendary and inimitable; and

     WHEREAS, A quote from a Denver Post editorial sums up the whole-hearted dedication

and sentiment Sandra Mundy gave to both her chosen profession and the people she loved and

helped each and every day. "Librarians are very special people. They are the caregivers of the

world of the mind, the nurturers of dreams and the defenders of truth. Perhaps no other

profession is so marked by the singular generosity of its practitioners"; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby honors and thanks Sandra Mundy for almost forty-five years of continuous service to the

people and the Town of Burrillville as Director of the Jesse M. Smith Memorial Library. The

membership, furthermore, wishes her much happiness and success in all her future endeavors;

and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Sandra Phair Mundy.
