EXPRESSING SYMPATHY ON THE PASSING OF MRS. LINNEAR HOPKINS HORNE | |

1 | WHEREAS, It was the will of our Heavenly Father to extend eternal rest to our beloved |
2 | Sister, Linnear Hopkins Horne, on February 22nd of 2015, after decades of devoted and |
3 | committed service to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Horne was a devoted and faithful member of Congdon Street Baptist |
5 | Church. She continued her family's heritage and brought her musical experience to Congdon |
6 | Street Baptist Church beginning at the age of 13. She sang in the Senior Choir. As a teenager, she |
7 | played for the Gospel Chorus and served as the assistant church organist. Mrs. Horne served for |
8 | fifty-four years as Church Organist, Senior Choir Director, and several additional chairs; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Horne provided piano lessons and remained committed to the quest for |
10 | the continuation of the arts programs in public schools; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Horne's legacy is honored and celebrated for her impact on the lives of |
12 | choir members, former students, mentees and countless others. In her own words, Mrs. Horne |
13 | once said, "These have been and still are happy, busy, vexing and sometimes trying years, but |
14 | imagine how empty life would have been without the opportunity to work for and enjoy the up- |
15 | building of God's Kingdom through music"; and |
16 | WHEREAS, It was truly a blessing for those who knew and worked so closely with the |
17 | beloved Mrs. Horne, and to have had the opportunity to be touched in such a positive and |
18 | spiritual way by her, through her music, in their lives, and in their souls; now, therefore be it |
19 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
20 | hereby joins the members of the Congdon Street Baptist Church, in celebration of a life well lived |

1 | and for her many contributions to her church and community; and be it further |
2 | RESOLVED, That this Senate hereby extends to her loving family our earnest, heartfelt |
3 | sympathies and hope that they will be comforted and given solace by the memory of Mrs. Horne's |
4 | loving spirit, kindness, faithfulness and dedication; and be it further |
5 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
6 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Congdon Street Baptist Church, |
7 | Providence, Rhode Island. |
