S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF EVERETT MICHAEL ARMOUR

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Everett

2

M. Armour, beloved husband of his wife, Judith, for fifty-four years, and the loving father of our

3

friend and colleague, Senator Cynthia Armour Coyne and her husband, Jerry, Sheila J. Lee and

4

her husband, Edward, and the late Eric Armour. He was also the very proud grandfather of

5

Katherine, Patrick, Ian, Meghan, and James; and

6

     WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of the City of Pawtucket, Everett Armour, who was

7

known as "Gus" by his family and many friends, was the son of the late James and Leona

8

Armour, and the brother of Joan Lang. He was a graduate of Tolman High School; and

9

     WHEREAS, Upon graduation from Tolman High School, Mr. Armour enlisted in the

10

United States Navy, where he served our country with honor and distinction, including a tour on

11

"Old Ironsides." Later in his life, he continued his education, graduating from Bryant University,

12

Clark University, and Providence College; and

13

     WHEREAS, In 1962, Mr. Armour joined the Rhode Island State Police, retiring at the

14

rank of Lieutenant after twenty-one years of service. During his tenure with the State Police, he

15

specialized in the use of the polygraph machine as a member of the Bureau of Criminal

16

Identification. Never one to remain idle, following his retirement from the State Police, he

17

became the Director of Security and Fraud for Citizens Bank; and

18

     WHEREAS, Always an active and contributing member of the community, Mr. Armour

19

was a founding member of the annual Save the Bay swim and the Rhode Island Aquatic Hall of

20

Fame, where he served as a board member for more than two decades. His professional

affiliations included helping to establish the Rhode Island State Police Museum and its

2

Foundation; and

3

     WHEREAS, In his free time, Mr. Armour enjoyed photographing and being an officiate

4

for his children's and grandchildren's swim meets. In 2011, he was inducted into the Rhode Island

5

Aquatic Hall of Fame. Immensely proud of his Scottish Heritage, Mr. Armour loved the bagpipes

6

and drums, competed internationally as a Drum Major, and was a member of the Mystic

7

Highlanders, Rhode Island Highlanders, and Roger Williams University pipe bands; now,

8

therefore be it

9

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

10

hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of Everett Michael Armour. He was a

11

devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend and he will be dearly missed; and be it further

12

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

13

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Judith Armour and Family.
