	RELATING TO EDUCATION-- THE RHODE ISLAND BOARD OF EDUCATION ACT

	It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
1	SECTION 1. Chapter 16-97 of the General Laws entitled "The Rhode Island Board of
2	Education Act" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:
3	16-97-9. Cooperative service among state colleges. – (a) The council on post-secondary
4	education shall, to the extent permitted by law and/or contract, consolidate administrative
5	functions within the state's three (3) colleges, the Community College of Rhode Island, Rhode
6	Island College and the University of Rhode Island. The consolidation of services pursuant to this
7	section shall eliminate any duplication in functions among the colleges and university, which
8	otherwise can be performed by using fewer resources while providing the same service and/or
9	function for all three (3) state higher education institutions.
10	(b) The council on post-secondary education shall adopt rules and regulations regarding
11	all aspects of the consolidation of services required by this section.
12	SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
