RELATING TO EDUCATION - FUNDING OF CHARTER PUBLIC SCHOOLS | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 16-77.1 of the General Laws entitled "Funding of Charter Public |
2 | Schools [See Title 16 Chapter 97 - The Rhode Island Board of Education Act]" is hereby |
3 | amended by adding thereto the following section: |
4 | 16-77.1-8. Special education costs. -- For any student requiring special education |
5 | services who attends a charter public school which school is in partnership with a public school |
6 | system, the local education agency or "LEA" where the student resides shall be responsible for all |
7 | special education costs associated with and provided to that student. The provisions of this |
8 | section shall apply to students attending a district charter school, an independent charter school, |
9 | or a mayoral academy. |
10 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
