S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES TO THE WILLIAMSON FAMILY ON THE PASSING OF

JAMES A. WILLIAMSON, JR.

     WHEREAS, James A. Williamson, Jr., of West Warwick, Rhode Island, was born in

2

Westerly, Rhode Island, the son of Marjorie L. and James A. Williamson, Sr. He was the beloved

3

husband of Maribeth Williamson for more than thirty years, and the devoted father of Abigail

4

Quinn Williamson and Samuel James Williamson; and

5

     WHEREAS, Mr. Williamson graduated from West Warwick High School in 1978. After

6

attaining a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island, he worked for the Rhode

7

Island Department of Transportation for fourteen years, serving the citizens of Rhode Island with

8

honor and integrity, before leaving when he purchased a family business, the West Warwick

9

Country Club; and

10

     WHEREAS, Mr. Williamson was a very civic minded citizen who cared passionately

11

about his community. He was the current Chairman of the West Warwick Planning Board and

12

was a former Chairman of the West Warwick School Committee. At the time of his passing, he

13

was Assistant to the Superintendent of the West Warwick Public Schools; and

14

     WHEREAS, Mr. Willliamson was also a passionate sports enthusiast. Until his passing

15

he had served as Treasurer of the West Warwick Basketball League, The West Warwick Cal

16

Ripken League, and the West Warwick Babe Ruth League. He was also a long time member of

17

the West Warwick Wizards Athletic Awards Association. He was an outstanding athlete in his

18

youth, and felt that his true passion in life was coaching his children’s sports teams to numerous

19

championships. Some of his proudest moments in life came as he was guiding his children’s

sports teams to numerous championships. Recently, his daughter Abby joined him on the

2

coaching sidelines and together, they continued the family’s championship tradition in athletics;

3

and

4

     WHEREAS, Mr. Williamson also leaves behind his brother, the Honorable Timothy A.

5

Williamson, and his wife, Maryanne, and sister, Kristine D. Williamson, and her husband, Kirk.

6

He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Martha D. Quinn, sister-in-law Jennifer L. Blansfield,

7

and her husband, Chris, and brothers-in-law Cameron P. Quinn, Jr., and his wife Deb, and Mark

8

E. Quinn. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, all of whom adored him. He was the

9

son-in-law of the late Cameron P. "Ronnie" Quinn, and brother-in-law of the late Jane M. Quinn;

10

now; therefore be it

11

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

12

hereby expresses its deepest condolences to the Williamson Family on the passing of James A.

13

Williamson, Jr.; and be it further

14

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

15

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Maribeth Williamson and the Williamson

16

Family.
