S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

RECOGNIZING CATHERINE PAQUETTE FOR HER MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE

STATE OF RHODE ISLAND AND CONGRATULATING HER ON THE OCCASION OF

HER RETIREMENT

     WHEREAS, For almost thirty-six years, the fortunate citizens of the Ocean State have

been the beneficiaries of the abiding dedication to excellence that Catherine Paquette has always

brought to her work as a valued employee of the State of Rhode Island; and

     WHEREAS, Catherine Paquette, better known as "Cathy" by her family and many

friends, began her distinguished career in public service on March 11th of 1979. During her state

service, she has held myriad positions including, Senior Clerk, Senior Clerk Typist, and

Eligibility Technician; and

     WHEREAS, During her tenure in state employment, Cathy has also been a strong

advocate for her fellow workers. She has held numerous union leadership positions with Local

2882, Department of Human Services, RI Council 94, AFSCME, including serving as Steward

from 1980 through 1985, Vice-President from 1985 through 1990, and President from 1990 until

2014. In addition, she has been a member of the Rhode Island Council Executive Board and had

served as Treasurer until her retirement; and

     WHEREAS, In addition to the copious hours Cathy has devoted to her job and her union

responsibilities, she and her husband of forty-nine years, Roger, make their home in the City of

Warwick, and she is the loving mother of two sons, and the doting grandmother of four beautiful

grandchildren; and

     WHEREAS, Cathy Paquette's dedication and demeanor have earned her the unqualified

admiration and respect of her fellow workers and our gratitude and recognition; now, therefore be

it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby recognizes and sincerely thanks Catherine Paquette on the occasion of her retirement and

we wish her continued happiness, good health and fulfillment during her richly deserved

retirement years; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Catherine Paquette.
