S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING REPRESENTATIVE DONALD J. LALLY, JR., FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE

PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, The Rhode Island General Assembly will be losing a valued member with

the retirement of Representative Donald J. Lally, Jr.; and

     WHEREAS, Don Lally graduated from East Providence High School. He continued his

education, earning a Bachelor's degree from the University of Rhode Island and his Juris

Doctorate from the New England School of Law in 1980. He is employed as an attorney at Lally

Law Associates, LLC, and is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association; and

     WHEREAS, In November of 1989, the Honorable Donald Lally was elected to the Rhode

Island House of Representatives from District 33, which encompasses Narragansett and South

Kingstown. He is currently the second most senior Representative in the House, having spent

almost twenty-six years serving his constituency and the citizens of Rhode Island with distinction

and integrity; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Lally has been a champion of myriad causes throughout his

tenure in the legislature. He sponsored and supported legislation that successfully closed a

loophole in the state's drunk-driving laws and criminalized "social host" actions involving minors.

In addition, he sponsored legislation making it illegal, for those convicted of a violent crime, to

own body armor; and

     WHEREAS, Earning the utmost respect of his colleagues, Representative Lally has

served on a panoply of committees and in numerous leadership positions. He is currently the

Speaker Pro Tempore, and a member of the House Committee on Judiciary, the House Oversight

Committee, and the House Rules Committee. He also previously served as Chair of the House

Judiciary Committee; and

     WHEREAS, As well as being a successful Representative of the people in the state

legislature, Don is a devoted husband to his lovely wife, Sandra, and is the proud father of two

children, Jessica and Connor. He has been active on numerous community organizations

including, the Narragansett Bay Project, the R.I. Aqua Fund Advisory and Narrow River

Preservation Association, and is a member of the Narragansett Democratic Town Committee; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Lally has touched the lives of so many people through his

diligent efforts and with the legislation he has fought to enact. He is a true gentleman and an

extraordinary individual, who has served as a model of dedicated and conscientious civic service,

and is eminently worthy of our gratitude and acknowledgement; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby honors Representative Donald J. Lally, Jr., as he concludes his service in the Rhode Island

General Assembly. We thank him for a job well done, and extend our sincere wishes for his

continued health, happiness, and success; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Donald J. Lally, Jr.
