HONORING REPRESENTATIVE DONALD J. LALLY, JR., FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE | |
PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, The Rhode Island General Assembly will be losing a valued member with |
2 | the retirement of Representative Donald J. Lally, Jr.; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Don Lally graduated from East Providence High School. He continued his |
4 | education, earning a Bachelor's degree from the University of Rhode Island and his Juris |
5 | Doctorate from the New England School of Law in 1980. He is employed as an attorney at Lally |
6 | Law Associates, LLC, and is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association; and |
7 | WHEREAS, In November of 1989, the Honorable Donald Lally was elected to the Rhode |
8 | Island House of Representatives from District 33, which encompasses Narragansett and South |
9 | Kingstown. He is currently the second most senior Representative in the House, having spent |
10 | almost twenty-six years serving his constituency and the citizens of Rhode Island with distinction |
11 | and integrity; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Representative Lally has been a champion of myriad causes throughout his |
13 | tenure in the legislature. He sponsored and supported legislation that successfully closed a |
14 | loophole in the state's drunk-driving laws and criminalized "social host" actions involving minors. |
15 | In addition, he sponsored legislation making it illegal, for those convicted of a violent crime, to |
16 | own body armor; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Earning the utmost respect of his colleagues, Representative Lally has |
18 | served on a panoply of committees and in numerous leadership positions. He is currently the |
19 | Speaker Pro Tempore, and a member of the House Committee on Judiciary, the House Oversight |

1 | Committee, and the House Rules Committee. He also previously served as Chair of the House |
2 | Judiciary Committee; and |
3 | WHEREAS, As well as being a successful Representative of the people in the state |
4 | legislature, Don is a devoted husband to his lovely wife, Sandra, and is the proud father of two |
5 | children, Jessica and Connor. He has been active on numerous community organizations |
6 | including, the Narragansett Bay Project, the R.I. Aqua Fund Advisory and Narrow River |
7 | Preservation Association, and is a member of the Narragansett Democratic Town Committee; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Representative Lally has touched the lives of so many people through his |
9 | diligent efforts and with the legislation he has fought to enact. He is a true gentleman and an |
10 | extraordinary individual, who has served as a model of dedicated and conscientious civic service, |
11 | and is eminently worthy of our gratitude and acknowledgement; now, therefore be it |
12 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
13 | hereby honors Representative Donald J. Lally, Jr., as he concludes his service in the Rhode Island |
14 | General Assembly. We thank him for a job well done, and extend our sincere wishes for his |
15 | continued health, happiness, and success; and be it further |
16 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
17 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Donald J. Lally, Jr. |
