EXPRESSING SYMPATHY ON THE PASSING OF HELEN FAIRBROTHER MORONEY | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with profound sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of |
2 | Helen Fairbrother Moroney, beloved wife of the late John Moroney, and a well-respected |
3 | member of the Burrillville community; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Moroney was born and raised in Pascoag, and always maintained a |
5 | special place in her heart for the village. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Gordon, |
6 | John, and Edward, and is survived by her sisters-in-law, Pauline Laprade Fairbrother and Cecile |
7 | Fairbrother. She was also the devoted aunt of many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great |
8 | nephews who will forever remember spending summers with their Aunt Helen at "the lake"; and |
9 | WHEREAS, As a young woman, Mrs. Moroney worked for Senator Theodore Green in |
10 | Washington, D.C., and for Governor Notte in Rhode Island. She was a delegate to the Democratic |
11 | National Convention for President John F. Kennedy and was later employed in the Office of |
12 | Legislative Council; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Moroney was also very active on a number of local boards and |
14 | committees including being a member of the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council, a longtime |
15 | member of the Burrillville Democratic Town Committee, and serving as the President of the |
16 | Board of Trustees of the Pascoag Public Library, where she was a driving force behind the |
17 | awarding of a grant that funded the expansion of the library; and |
18 | WHEREAS, In honor of her many contributions and efforts on behalf of the library, the |
19 | new wing of the Pascoag Public Library was dedicated to Mrs. Moroney and, in recognition of all |
20 | she had done to make the Blackstone Valley a tourist destination, she was inducted into the |

1 | William Blackstone Society; and |
2 | WHEREAS, In addition to her community service, Mrs. Moroney and her husband |
3 | owned and operated the Ocean View Hotel on Block Island for many years and started Echo Lake |
4 | Campground in 1955, which has been running for over 60 years; and |
5 | WHEREAS, The most fitting tribute to Helen Moroney is a celebration of her life, a life |
6 | in which each and every day was lived fully and joyfully embraced. She was fortunate to have |
7 | always enjoyed the total love and support of her family, and in return, she brightened and |
8 | enriched the lives of all around her. Helen Moroney was the beloved matriarch of her family and |
9 | she will be dearly missed and forever remembered; now, therefore be it |
10 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
11 | hereby expresses our heartfelt condolences on the passing of Helen Moroney; and be it further |
12 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
13 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Pauline Laprade Fairbrother and Family, and |
14 | Cecile Fairbrother and Family. |
