CONGRATULATING ARTHUR PAIVA ON BEING SELECTED "CITIZEN OF THE YEAR" | |
BY THE NEWPORT ELKS LODGE #104 | |

1 | WHEREAS, The Newport Elks Lodge #104, noted for their charitable acts and a wide |
2 | variety of benevolent programs that assist the people and communities in Rhode Island, have |
3 | selected Arthur Paiva to be their "Citizen of the Year"; and |
4 | WHEREAS, The award was established in order to recognize and encourage "the |
5 | principles of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity" within the community. Mr. Paiva has |
6 | been chosen as the recipient of this prestigious award because of his consistent and selfless |
7 | expenditure of time, talent and energy for the benefit of the people of the City of Newport; and |
8 | WHEREAS, With honor and distinction, Mr. Paiva served our country for seven years in |
9 | the United States military, including deployment during the Korean War; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Mr. Paiva has dedicated much of his life to helping others and supporting |
11 | myriad organizations and causes within his community. He has served the Elks as Hoop Shoot |
12 | Chairman and, as a youth baseball umpire for more than forty years, he has become renowned |
13 | and acclaimed within the Aquidneck Island Little League Program; and |
14 | WHEREAS, In addition, Mr. Paiva has not only been a dedicated blood donor for the |
15 | majority of his life, but he has also served as the State Chairman of the Knights of Columbus |
16 | Kidney Dialysis Program which provided four kidney dialysis machines to the state; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Arthur Paiva has earned the unqualified admiration and respect of one of the |
18 | largest and most active fraternal organizations in the world, the Elks, as well as the citizenry of |
19 | the City of Newport. His years of devoted service to the community are truly an inspiration to us |

2 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
3 | hereby congratulates and honors Arthur Paiva on being selected the Newport Elks Lodge #104 |
4 | "Citizen of the Year." We applaud his accomplishments and wish him the very best health and |
5 | continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further |
6 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
7 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Arthur Paiva. |
