CONGRATULATING KAREN JOHNSON ON BEING SELECTED AS ONE OF THE 2015

NEWPORT DAILY NEWS COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD WINNERS

     WHEREAS, The Newport Daily News established a "Community Service Award" in

1995, on the paper’s 150th Anniversary celebration in order to recognize and encourage

volunteerism within the community. This year marks the 20th Anniversary of its award

presentations; and

     WHEREAS, Karen Johnson has been chosen as one of this year's recipients of this

prestigious award. She has consistently and selflessly given her time, talent, and energy to a

myriad of clubs and organizations that benefit the population of the City of Newport, and along

the way, she has earned the unqualified admiration and respect of everyone involved; and

     WHEREAS, A resident of Middletown, Karen has been a long-time volunteer at the

Middletown Senior Center and at the Forest Farm Health Care Center. She currently serves as

President of the Mosaic Club, a service organization for women, to name just a few of her

altruistic endeavors; and

     WHEREAS, Always happy to lend a hand, Karen never remains idle for very long. She

devotes many of her days to a range of volunteer tasks, both large and small; and

     WHEREAS, Karen's dedication and commitment, combined with her loving personality

are well-known and widely admired. She is a generous and spirited lady and a true role model for

us all to emulate; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby congratulates and honors Karen Johnson on being selected as one of the 2015 Newport

Daily News Community Service Award winners. Her years of devoted service to the community

are an inspiration to us all; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Karen Johnson.
