S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

COMMEMORATING THE CELEBRATION OF "ARBOR DAY" ON APRIL 24TH OF 2015

IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, April 24th of 2015 marks the one hundred twenty-eighth anniversary of the

2

observance of Arbor Day in Rhode Island and is set aside to commemorate the growing,

3

protecting, and maintaining of trees; and

4

     WHEREAS, Our countryside is blessed with a plentiful number and variety of trees, that

5

beautify our landscape, add a touch of nature to our cities and towns, provide a locale where

6

people can find wholesome recreation, and serve as one of the major building blocks in the

7

development of this nation; and

8

     WHEREAS, Our forests and trees provide food to eat, yield paper for the books from

9

which we obtain and share great knowledge, and produce materials from which we build our

10

homes as well as provide us with thousands of other useful products; and

11

     WHEREAS, Our forests are the origin of clear, clean drinking water, serve to purify the

12

air, and hold intact the precious topsoil of our land; and

13

     WHEREAS, We would not be able to enjoy the quiet solitude of the forest glen or the

14

joyous setting of a family picnic were it not for trees; and

15

     WHEREAS, Trees are the mightiest creation of the plant kingdom and we should be

16

conscious each and every day of the vital need to conserve and use wisely this wonderful,

17

renewable resource; and

18

     WHEREAS, It is the duty of mankind to plant and maintain trees for future generations;

19

now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

2

hereby proclaims April 24th of 2015 to be "Arbor Day" in the State of Rhode Island. We

3

moreover encourage all our citizenry to recognize the importance of this day; and be it further

4

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

5

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Rhode Island Congressional Delegation,

6

and the Director of the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.
