EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE ROCCO A. | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with sadness and profound sympathy that this Senate mourns the |
2 | passing on April 10, 2015, of our venerated former colleague, Rocco A. Quattrocchi, the beloved |
3 | husband of the late Dolores Quattrocchi, and the loving father of Joseph A. Quattrocchi and his |
4 | wife, Barbara, Cynthia A. Quattrocchi, and the late John J.M. Quattrocchi. He is also survived by |
5 | his cherished grandchildren, Charles Ruggerio and his wife, Jillian, Rocco Quattrocchi and his |
6 | wife, Alessandra, Joseph Quattrocchi and his wife, Krista, and Amanda Fallon and her husband, |
7 | William, and his three beautiful great-grandchildren, Ava Ruggerio, Mia Ruggerio and Cristiano |
8 | Quattrocchi; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Rocco Quattrocchi was born in the City of Providence, the son of the late |
10 | Giovanni and Vincenza Quattrocchi. He was the devoted brother of Josephine DeAngelis, and the |
11 | late Ali, John Jr., Elizabeth Bucci, Domenica Santagata, Martha Santoro, and Anna Smaldone. |
12 | He was a graduate of Classical High School, the University of Rhode Island, and had attended the |
13 | University of Bologna Medical School. In addition, he served our country with honor in the |
14 | United States Army during World War II; and |
15 | WHEREAS, A hard-working man, Mr. Quattrocchi owned and operated his family's very |
16 | successful business, Douglas Oil Company, for more than sixty-two years, retiring in 2013; and |
17 | WHEREAS, In 1968, the Honorable Rocco Quattrocchi was elected to the Rhode Island |
18 | General Assembly, where he served as the State Representative for the 7th district in Providence |
19 | from 1969 to 1970, and as the State Senator from the 4th district from 1971 to 1984. He was |

1 | devoted to his constituency, as well as myriad business and local organizations. During his |
2 | legislative tenure, he was the driving force behind the creation of the Narragansett Bay |
3 | Commission and for gaining university status and national recognition for both Johnson and |
4 | Wales University and New England Technical Institute, to name but a few of his many legislative |
5 | accomplishments; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Earning the respect and loyalty of his fellow legislators, Mr. Quattrocchi |
7 | served as a Senate Deputy Majority Leader from 1976 to 1980, Senate Majority Leader from |
8 | 1980 to 1983, and had chaired numerous committees. He also served the party statewide as the |
9 | Democratic State Chairman from 1978 to 1983; and |
10 | WHEREAS, In addition to his efforts at the State House and his business, Mr. |
11 | Quattrocchi was always wholly involved in local events and causes and had received numerous |
12 | accolades for his dedication to our state. He was a member of the Kiwanis Foundation of Roger |
13 | Williams, the DaVinci Center, the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation, the John E. Forgarty |
14 | Center, the Italian American Club and the Italian American Heritage Society, and was a |
15 | communicate of St. Ann Church and a supporter of St. Anthony's Church. In his spare time, he |
16 | enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Metacomet Country Club, the Longboat Key Country |
17 | Club and was an International Member of the Royal St. Andrew's Golf Club in Scotland; and |
18 | WHEREAS, The Honorable Rocco Quattrocchi's generosity, loyalty, and sincerity |
19 | enriched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to have been part of his life, and his |
20 | dedication to public service truly made the future brighter for the citizens of this state; now, |
21 | therefore be it |
22 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
23 | hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of the Honorable Rocco A. Quattrocchi; |
24 | and be it further |
25 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
26 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Joseph A. Quattrocchi and Family, and Cynthia |
27 | A. Quattrocchi. |
