RELATING TO HIGHWAYS -- CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE OF CERTAIN

ROADS IN THE CITY OF PROVIDENCE

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 24-8 of the General Laws entitled "Construction and Maintenance

of State Roads" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     24-8-45. Maintenance of certain roads in the city of Providence. -- (a)

Notwithstanding the provisions of § 24-8-1.3, or any other act or state law, the state director of

transportation, by and through his or her designees, shall be responsible for the maintenance cost,

reconstruction, snow and ice removal, construction, and maintenance of the roads, adjoining

curbs, and sidewalks, drainage, and installation, and maintenance of traffic signals located in the

city of Providence as set forth in subsection (b) of this section; and these public highways shall be

designated as state highways, as further defined in § 31-1-23(j).

     (b) Academy Avenue, Admiral Street, Allens Avenue, Angell Street, Ashburton Street,

Atwells Avenue, Branch Avenue, Broad Street, Broadway, Canal Street, Carter Street,

Chalkstone Avenue, Charles Street, Cranston Street, Dave Gavitt Way also known as Service

Road 8, Dean Street, Dorrance Plaza, Dorrance Street, Douglas Avenue, Doyle Avenue, Dyer

Avenue, Dyer Street, Eagle Street, Eddy Street, Elmwood Avenue, Empire Street, Exchange

Street, Exchange Terrace, Fountain Street, Francis Street, Fricker Street, Friendship Street, Fruit

Hill Avenue, Gano Street, Glenbridge Avenue, Harris Avenue, Hartford Avenue, Henderson

Bridge, Hope Street, Huntington Avenue, John J. Partington Way also known as Service Road 7,

Kennedy Plaza, Killingly Street, Lockwood Street, Manton Avenue, Mathewson Street, Memorial

Boulevard, Messer Street, Miller Street, Mount Pleasant Avenue, Narragansett Boulevard,

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

RELATING TO HIGHWAYS -- CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE OF CERTAIN

ROADS IN THE CITY OF PROVIDENCE

     This act would designate certain roads in the city of Providence as state highways, and

would require the state to provide maintenance cost, reconstruction, snow and ice removal,

construction, and maintenance of the roads, adjoining curbs, and sidewalks, drainage, and

installation, and maintenance of traffic signals.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
