HONORING MIKE MONTECALVO ON HIS INDUCTION INTO THE RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Radio Hall of Fame was established in 2008 to celebrate |
2 | the medium's history in the Ocean State. Being an inductee into the organization is a momentous |
3 | tribute to those who have played a significant role in radio's history and growth in our state; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Mike Montecalvo, an awarding-winning journalist who co-anchors |
5 | newscasts on WPRI-12 news and FOX Providence, has been honored as one of the class of 2015's |
6 | distinguished inductees; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Born and raised in Woonsocket, Mr. Montecalvo is a graduate of La Salle |
8 | Academy and Rhode Island College. In 1981, he began his career in broadcast journalism, |
9 | working in the Rhode Island and Connecticut markets; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Mike had a passion for radio and began working at WNRI in Woonsocket. |
11 | Over the course of the next thirty-three years, he worked at WWON, WINY, WKRI, WERI, |
12 | RI104, 103.7 WRX, 1110 CNN, B101, WHJY and WHJJ; and |
13 | WHEREAS, He has covered a panoply of historic stories in the state and has interviewed |
14 | numerous celebrities and politicians. He is currently an instructor at Bryant University and an |
15 | advisor to the school's radio station, WJMF; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Throughout his lifetime, Mike Montecalvo has earned a reputation for |
17 | excellence. He has been nominated for an Emmy many times for his work as an Anchor and |
18 | Reporter and has received over forty Community Service and Associated Press Awards. In |
19 | addition, he has received the Charles B. Willard Award for professional achievement and was a |

1 | Communications Department Honor Roll Inductee at Rhode Island College. He has also received |
2 | The Lumen Gentium Award for Communications from The Diocese of Providence, The RI |
3 | Community Food Bank Leadership Award, The Alzheimer’s Media Award, Meeting Street’s |
4 | "Unsung Heroes Award and its "Walter Cryan Award"; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Mr. Montecalvo has also been very active in myriad altruistic causes |
6 | including, being a part of the Prevent Child Abuse-RI organization, The Alzheimer’s Association |
7 | of Rhode Island, The A-L-S Association-Rhode Island Chapter, The RI Community Food Bank, |
8 | Special Olympics-RI, Meeting Street, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of The Ocean State, The |
9 | Diabetes Foundation of Rhode Island, and the MS Society, to name just a few; and |
10 | WHEREAS, With a radio career that has spanned more than thirty years, Mike |
11 | Montecalvo has had an enduring impact on the radio industry and his accomplishments are |
12 | worthy of our recognition and emulation; now, therefore be it |
13 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
14 | hereby honors Mike Montecalvo on his induction into the 2015 Rhode Island Radio Hall of |
15 | Fame; and be it further |
16 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
17 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Mike Montecalvo. |
