EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES TO THE LIMA FAMILY ON THE PASSING OF THE | |
HONORABLE GEORGE CHARLES LIMA, SR. | |

1 | WHEREAS, George Charles Lima, Sr., passed away on April 7, 2015, at the Rhode |
2 | Island Veterans' Home. He was the husband of the late Emily (Furtado) Lima and the son of the |
3 | late Joseph and Mary (Pacheco) Lima; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Mr. Lima was born in Bristol, Rhode Island, and served his hometown in a |
5 | variety of official capacities with devotion and integrity. He served as a Rhode Island State |
6 | Representative from 1957 to 1962, and later as a Rhode Island State Senator from 1975 to 1981, |
7 | and as a Deputy Senate Majority Leader from 1977 to 1981; and |
8 | WHEREAS, In addition, Mr. Lima served as a Life Member and Past Captain of the |
9 | Hydraulion Engine and Hose Company Number 1, was a member of the Bristol Fire Department |
10 | for 56 years, was the founder of the George C. Lima Funeral Home, and was a leader and active |
11 | member of many Bristol organizations including, the Bristol County Elks #186, Knights of |
12 | Columbus #379, American Legion Kearney Post #6, Cup Defenders and Anthony C. Almeida |
13 | Post # 237 VFW, and was a Past President of the Don Luiz Felipe Society. Mr. Lima was also a |
14 | communicant of St. Elizabeth Church; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Mr. Lima also served our nation in the United States Army during World |
16 | War II with honor and valor. He was always a proud active participant in numerous patriotic |
17 | ceremonies and events and attended seventy-five Bristol Fourth of July Parades during his |
18 | lifetime. Mr. Lima was a well-known and beloved civic, church, and business leader in Bristol. |
19 | He was always available and willing to offer assistance to anyone in need of help; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Mr. Lima leaves behind his children, Oryann Lima and her husband, |
2 | Raymond Cordeiro, George C. Lima, Jr., and his wife, Bonnie, and Frances Dutelle and her |
3 | husband, Raymond. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Raymond Dutelle, Jr., and his |
4 | fiancée, Cailyn Couto, Alison Miranda and her husband, Brett, Nicholas Lima, Matthew Lima, |
5 | Margaret Lima, Nathaniel Morency, Noah Morency, Hope Morency, and Ciara Morency, and his |
6 | great grandchildren, Keegan Dutelle and Ella Miranda. He was the brother of Veronica Dionne; |
7 | now, therefore be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
9 | hereby expresses its condolences to the Lima Family on the passing of the Honorable George |
10 | Charles Lima, Sr.; and be it further |
11 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
12 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Oryann Lima, George C. Lima, Jr., and Frances |
13 | Dutelle. |
