S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING EIGHT YEAR OLD JEANNETTE FINCH OF COVENTRY, RHODE ISLAND,

ON BEING NAMED THE 2015 CHILDREN'S MIRACLE NETWORK HOSPITALS RHODE

ISLAND CHAMPION

     WHEREAS, Jeannette Finch, daughter of John and Carol Finch, was born with

Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as Brittle Bone Disease. Her father also suffers from

this disease. Osteogenesis has no cure and affects up to 50,000 Americans. It's a disease that leads

to frequent bone fractures in one’s life and other possible symptoms include pulmonary disease,

curved bones or spines, loose joints, muscle weakness, hearing loss, brittle teeth, and shortness of

stature; and

     WHEREAS, Jeannette suffered her first fracture at the age of six months and has already

endured five fractures in her legs and arms. Despite suffering from this debilitating disease,

Jeannette lives her life like any other young kid. She loves to swim, an activity that is good for

people with her condition, and dreams of being an artist one day. Most importantly, she bravely

battles her condition on a daily basis with good spirits, a sense of optimism, and has become an

ambassador for those living with Osteogenesis; and

     WHEREAS, On April 21, 2015, in recognition of Jeannette's courageous fight against

Osteogenesis and her resolve to live her life like any other eight year old child, Hasbro Children's

Hospital honored Jeannette Finch as their 2015 Children's Network Hospitals Rhode Island

Champion. In her ambassadorial role, Jeannette will highlight the lifesaving work of Hasbro

Children's Hospital and the immense importance of donating funds to support research, treatment,

and ongoing care at the Hospital; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby honors Jeannette Finch of Coventry, Rhode Island, on being named the 2015 Children's

Miracle Network Hospitals Rhode Island Champion; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Jeannette Finch.
