HONORING NAN LEVINE FOR HER MANY YEARS OF EXEMPLARY AND DEVOTED

VOLUNTEER SERVICE ON BEHALF OF THE NATIONAL COUNCIL OF JEWISH

WOMEN

     WHEREAS, The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is a national organization

2

with a long and distinguished history of social justice advocacy, volunteerism, philanthropy, and

3

for working tirelessly to safeguard individual rights and freedoms, and to protect and improve the

4

lives of women, children, and families; and

5

     WHEREAS, Nan Levine first joined the National Council for Jewish Women when she

6

was a teenager living in New York. She began her service as a Councilette, a former part of the

7

NCJW that offered teenagers an opportunity to perform meaningful community service. From

8

this modest beginning, Nan Levine went on to become Co-President of the NCJW in 2008; and

9

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Levine has worked on a myriad of issues vital to the lives of women

10

and children in her many years of service to the NCJW. She has been particularly active working

11

to educate the public about crucial issues that impact women and children, including human

12

trafficking, domestic violence, and teen bullying. Thanks to her hard work women and children

13

live safer and more secure lives today; and

14

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Levine is a successful businesswoman and has also been active in

15

various other community affairs. She was the President of Camp Ruggles, Rhode Island's only

16

day camp for children with a diagnosed emotional handicap, for thirty-five years. She was also

17

very active with the Providence Preservation Society having co-chaired their Annual Walking

18

Tour for three years, and is a charter member of the Rhode Island Association for Children with

19

learning disabilities. She is the widow of Mr. Donald Levine and the mother of three children;

now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

3

hereby honors Nan Levine for her many years of exemplary and devoted volunteer service on

4

behalf of the National Council of Jewish Women and in support of issues related to the well-

5

being of women and children; and be it further

6

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

7

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Nan Levine.
