S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING PROFOUND SYMPATHY ON THE PASSING OF BERTHA L. CROMPTON

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Bertha

2

L. Crompton, loving wife of the late Richard K. Crompton, and the devoted mother of two

3

daughters, Karolyn Simpson and Muriel Andreoni; and

4

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Crompton was born in Pawtucket, the daughter of the late Albert and

5

Ada Lawton. She and her husband had made their home in Smithfield for many years before she

6

moved to Lincoln after his passing. She was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Lund, and two

7

brothers, Henry and A. Forrest Lawton; and

8

     WHEREAS, Creating a home that was warm and welcoming, Mrs. Crompton doted on

9

her family, particularly her seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, five great-great-

10

grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews; and

11

     WHEREAS, In addition to making a home for her family, Mrs. Crompton had worked as

12

a payroll supervisor at the Rhode Island School of Design until her retirement. She was also a

13

very active member of the Lime Rock Baptist Church for 95 years, where she had served as a

14

deacon, honorary deacon, Sunday school superintendent, church historian, a choir member for 72

15

years, and a member of the Penetralia Guild and The Lime Rockers; and

16

     WHEREAS, There is no doubt that Bertha Crompton led a long and fulfilled life. She

17

was a warm and gracious woman, who left an indelible mark on the lives of those she knew and

18

loved, and she will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it

19

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

20

hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of Bertha L. Crompton; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

2

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Karolyn Simpson and Muriel Andreoni.
