EXPRESSING SINCERE CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF CHARLES HENRY | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with utmost sadness that this Senate has learned of the untimely passing |
2 | of Charles Henry "Chick" Gavitt, Jr., the beloved life companion of Victoria Lynn Bartlett, and |
3 | the devoted father of Elloise Grace Gavitt and Jaxson Charles Gavitt; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Born in Westerly, Chick was the son of Dorothy and Charles Henry "Chick" |
5 | Gavitt, Sr., and the brother of Marlo Joan Logan. He was also the brother-in-law of David |
6 | Badger Logan and the uncle of Aiden Charles Logan. He had graduated from University of |
7 | Rhode Island, Summa Cum Laude, with a Bachelor's degree in History, Secondary Education, |
8 | and a minor in Asian Studies; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Earning the revered title of "Kyoshi," which is awarded for special |
10 | accomplishments within the field of martial arts, Chick had studied and worked in the martial arts |
11 | for three decades and was the founder of Ichiban Karate and Kickboxing Studio. He was a 7th |
12 | degree Black Belt in Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Shidokan, a 3rd degree Black Belt in Shorin-Ryu |
13 | Shorinkan, and a 3rd degree Black Belt in Okinawan Weapons; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Chick was named Director of Shorin-Ryu Shidokan for Rhode Island, and |
15 | was a Rhode Island Faculty Member of the National School Support Network; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Incredibly fit, disciplined, and highly-trained, Kyoshi Chick Gavitt was one |
17 | of only 200 Budokon Instructors in the world and was also a certified Boot Camp Instructor, |
18 | Cardio Kickboxing Instructor, TRX certified trainer, Level 1 Muay Thai Teacher, and a Level 2 |
19 | MMA Fitness Trainer; and |

1 | WHEREAS, In addition to his family and the martial arts, Chick was dedicated and |
2 | actively involved with many organizations within the community for which he had earned a |
3 | Gubernatorial Citation from former Governor Donald Carcieri. He was a member of the South |
4 | Kingstown Cares organization and had served as President of the Wakefield Downtown |
5 | Merchants Association; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Chick fought his cancer the same way he lived his life, with gusto and |
7 | courage. His determination in the face of adversity was inspirational, and he enriched the lives of |
8 | all who knew him; now, therefore be |
9 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
10 | hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of Charles Henry Gavitt, Jr.; and be it |
11 | further |
12 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
13 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Victoria Lynn Bartlett and Family. |
