EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF SCOTT E. WANG, M.D.

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the untimely passing

2

of Scott E. Wang, MD, the beloved husband of his wife and "the love of his life," Carol, the

3

devoted and very proud father of Joshua and Rachael Wang, and a talented and compassionate

4

physician and distinguished leader in pathology; and

5

     WHEREAS, Scott Wang grew up in Rhode Island, the son of Arlene Wang and the late

6

Herbert Wang. He was the brother of Beth Nast, and her husband, Bill, and David Wang, and his

7

wife, Debbie. He is also survived by his uncle, Bernie Margolis, his sisters-in-law, Gail O'Leary,

8

and Pat Moseley and her husband, Hank, as well as many nephews and nieces; and

9

     WHEREAS, Upon graduating Magna Cum Laude from Duke University, Dr. Wang

10

received his medical degree from Boston University. After completing his residency in Pathology

11

at the University of California, he did his fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia; and

12

     WHEREAS, Following completion of his fellowship, Dr. Wang served on the faculty of

13

Allegheny General Hospital and the Medical College of Pennsylvania as the Director of

14

Cytology, Cytogenetics, and Blood Bank. He subsequently moved back "to his beloved Rhode

15

Island" where he served as Chairman of the Department of Pathology at Newport Hospital for the

16

next twenty years until his retirement in 2011, due to his illness; and

17

     WHEREAS, In his mid-fifties, in the prime of his life, Dr. Wang was diagnosed with

18

brain cancer. He became a strong voice of hope for individuals and families battling brain tumors

19

and was a long-standing member of the Rhode Island Brain and Spinal Tumor Foundation; and

20

     WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Wang was an inspector and state delegate for the College of

American Pathologists for nearly twenty years, served as treasurer/secretary for the Rhode Island

2

Society of Pathologists, and was the pathology representative to the Rhode Island Medical

3

Society; and

4

     WHEREAS, Scott Wang was blessed to have always had the total support and adoration

5

of his family and his determination in the face of adversity was inspirational to all who knew and

6

loved him. Although all too short, his life was filled with good people, great times, and an

7

abundance of love; now, therefore be it

8

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

9

hereby offers our heartfelt condolences to Dr. Wang's bereaved family and friends and we hope

10

that the sadness of his passing will be replaced by warm memories to comfort them in the days

11

ahead; and be it further

12

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

13

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Carol Wang and Family.
