RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING GOVERNOR GINA RAIMONDO TO DECLARE THE | |
MONTH OF JUNE TO BE "IMMIGRANT HERITAGE MONTH" IN THE STATE OF RHODE | |

1 | WHEREAS, Generations of immigrants from every corner of the globe have built our |
2 | country's economy and created the unique character of our nation; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Immigrants continue to grow businesses, innovate, strengthen our economy, |
4 | and create jobs in Rhode Island; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Immigrants have provided the United States and Rhode Island with unique |
6 | social and cultural influences, fundamentally enriching the extraordinary character of each; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Immigrants have been tireless leaders not only in securing their own rights |
8 | and access to equal opportunity, but have also campaigned to create a fairer and more just society |
9 | for all Americans; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Despite these countless contributions, the role of immigrants in building and |
11 | enriching our nation has frequently been overlooked and undervalued throughout our history, and |
12 | continues to the present day; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Rhode Island, since its founding by Roger Williams, has always been a |
14 | place that believes in individual freedom and of the power of new immigrants to add much |
15 | needed energy and vitality to our state and nation; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Immigrants to Rhode Island currently speak more than 60 languages and |
17 | represent more than 60 countries. Rhode Island has immigrants from a diverse array of countries |
18 | including Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Germany, China, Cambodia, Dominican Republic, Mexico, |
19 | Guatemala, Colombia and many others nations; now, therefore be it |

1 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
2 | hereby respectfully requests that Governor Gina Raimondo declares the Month of June to be |
3 | "Immigrant Heritage Month" in the State of Rhode Island; and be it further |
4 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
5 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Honorable Governor of Rhode Island, Gina |
6 | Raimondo, the Rhode Island Congressional Delegation, the White House Intergovernmental |
7 | Office, and the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators. |
