RECOGNIZING AND THANKING PAULA S. DOMINGUEZ, ED.D., ON HER SERVICE TO | |
THE PEOPLE AND THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, Paula S. Dominguez, Ed.D., has distinguished herself throughout her |
2 | lifetime and myriad careers, and has attained the admiration, respect, and gratitude of all who |
3 | have been fortunate to work by her side and learn from her experience and vast knowledge; and |
4 | WHEREAS, In 1988, Paula attained her A.B. in Psychobiology from Mount Holyoke |
5 | College, and in 1992, her M.S. in Television, Radio, and Film from Syracuse University. |
6 | Continuing her education, she earned her Ed.M. in Human Development and Psychology from |
7 | Harvard University, and her Ed.D. in Human Development and Psychology from Harvard |
8 | University in 1998; and |
9 | WHEREAS, To the immense good fortune of the Rhode Island General Assembly and |
10 | citizens of the state, Paula joined the staff of the Rhode Island House of Representatives, as a |
11 | Senior Education Policy Advisor in 2006. In 2009, she was also named Director of Legislative |
12 | Research, a position she held until 2013, when she was named Principal Policy Analyst for the |
13 | Rhode Island Senate, and was then promoted to the position of Deputy Director of Senate Policy; |
14 | and |
15 | WHEREAS, Prior to joining the staff of the General Assembly, Paula's expansive resume |
16 | included a panoply of administrative and educational experience including serving as Senior |
17 | Director of Research Strategy and Director of Research and Evaluation for Hezel Associates in |
18 | New York, to name just a few; and |
19 | WHEREAS, In addition, Paula has held numerous leadership and teaching positions at |

1 | some of the most prestigious Universities in our country. She was a Lecturer at Brown |
2 | University, an Adjunct Instructor at Old Dominion University, a teaching Fellow at Harvard |
3 | University, and served as the Director of Sponsored Research at Christopher Newport University; |
4 | and |
5 | WHEREAS, Earning a plethora of recognitions and honors, Paula was awarded a |
6 | Fulbright Scholarship, and traveled to India with her daughters, Ericka and Lauren, where she |
7 | studied the community college system from August thru December of 2014. She was also granted |
8 | an Action for Children's Television Doctoral Research Fellowship from Harvard University, and |
9 | was Harvard's Representative at the 4th World Conference on Women in Beijing, China. In |
10 | addition, Paula earned the Walter S. Barr Doctoral Fellowship and the Roy E. Larsen Fellowship |
11 | from Harvard University, and was a Research Fellow at the Swedish Ministry of Education; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Not limiting her dedication to her family and professional responsibilities, |
13 | Paula has devoted countless hours in service to her community. She currently serves as the Vice |
14 | Chair of the Barrington School Committee, was an English as a Second Language Tutor, a |
15 | Partnership for Success Committee Member, and Strategic Planning Committee Member for the |
16 | East Bay YMCA, again, to name but a few of her community endeavors; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Paula will be retiring from her position with the Senate and returning full- |
18 | time to the field of education as the Director of Assessment and Accreditation for Boston |
19 | College's School of Education, and while her departure from the State House will leave an |
20 | immeasurable void, her service to the General Assembly has been inspirational and she has |
21 | proven to be a role model of conscientious and dedicated service that is eminently worthy of our |
22 | recognition and praise; now, therefore be it |
23 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
24 | hereby expresses our heartfelt appreciation to Paula Dominguez for her years of dedicated service |
25 | to the citizens and General Assembly of the State of Rhode Island. We moreover congratulate her |
26 | on her appointment as the Director of Assessment and Accreditation for Boston College's School |
27 | of Education and wish her continued success and many years of good health and tremendous |
28 | happiness; and be it further |
29 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
30 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Paula S. Dominguez, Ed.D. |
