	CONGRATULATING FATHER BERNARD TOAL ON THE OCCASION OF HIS 100TH
	BIRTHDAY

1	WHEREAS, Father Bernard Toal was born ten decades ago on October 17th of 1915. As
2	a young man, he studied for the missionary priesthood at Columban Seminaries in New York,
3	Nebraska and Bristol. He was ordained on December 18th of 1943, and has spent the ensuing
4	seventy-two years in faithful service to our Lord and people of various cultures from around the
5	world; and
6	WHEREAS, Father Toal has served in California and Arizona, on the Island of Mindanao
7	in the Philippines, in Lima, Peru, California, New Mexico and Texas, and from 1952 through
8	1968, in Bristol, Rhode Island, where he served as Director of the seminary from 1958 through
9	1968, and later as a resident at the Columban Retirement Home. He currently resides at the St.
10	Elizabeth Manor Nursing Home; and
11	WHEREAS, Father Toal is filled with a wisdom that can only be gained through life’s
12	joys and tribulations and his gentle spirit has blessed the lives of all around him.
13	We are inspired by his extraordinary journey, his devotion, and his myriad
14	accomplishments and we are honored to join in the joyous celebration of his 100th birthday; now,
15	therefore be it
16	RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and
17	Providence Plantations hereby joins the family and many friends of Father Bernard Toal in
18	wishing him a very happy 100th Birthday. We moreover extend our sincerest wishes for his
19	continued happiness and health, and for all the very best that life has to offer; and be it further

1	RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to
2	transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Father Bernard Toal.
