H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING ARCHIE R. COLE MIDDLE SCHOOL, EAST GREENWICH, RHODE

ISLAND, FOR BEING NAMED A 2015 BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL

     WHEREAS, Being named a National Blue Ribbon School is the pinnacle of national

awards for schools in the United States. The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program began in

1982 as a way to recognize public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on

their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps. This prestigious

award is only given to the highest performing schools in the United States. Only 335 schools

nationally were recognized in 2015, and one of them was the Archie R. Cole Middle School in

East Greenwich, Rhode Island; and

     WHEREAS, The Archie R. Cole Middle School has 633 students, attending grades 6-8.

Archie R. Cole Middle School teachers and Principal Alexis L. Meyer take pride in ensuring that

a nurturing environment exists for all of its students. Excellence is the goal and the best

pedagogical practices are used to achieve that goal and to make a difference in the lives of every

student that attends Cole. The vision and mission Cole stands for is "to be a shining model of

excellence at the middle level"; and

     WHEREAS, This achievement would not be possible without the dedicated support and

tireless work provided daily by all the teachers, administrators, staff members, families and

students at the Archie R. Cole Middle School. The Archie R. Cole Middle School was deservedly

honored along with 285 public schools and 50 private schools at a ceremony in Washington, D.

C.; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates the Archie R. Cole Middle School for being named a

2015 Blue Ribbon School; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Alexis L. Meyer, Principal, Archie R. Cole

Middle School.
